Should I switch my puppy from Nutro to Wellness?
Posted on August 31st, 2009 by admin
I gave my puppy nutro small bites for a week, but a lot of my friends say that Wellness is a lot better. She is about 2 1/2 months old and ive had her for almost 2 weeks now.
Would it be ok for me to switch her from nutro to Wellness?
Wellness is much better than Nutro….just make the change gradual.

Your friends are correct! Nutro is actually pretty low quality, at least the Natural Choice and the Max are- Ultra isn’t that bad but I’d never feed it.
However make sure you transition her slowly- feed 25% of Wellness with 75% of Nutro for a few days, then 50% of Wellness and 50% of Nutro for a few days, 25% of Nutro and 75% of Wellness for a few days, then 100% Wellness!

YES YES YES!
Wellness is very high- quality, Nutro is only mediocre. Gradually add more and more Wellness into her diet and less and less Nutro until you’re only feeding her Wellness.

I’d absolutely switch because Nutro is a brand of food I used to feed my dogs and they would throw it up often, then when the major recalls started, Nutro had lots of their product recalled and frequently.
Wellness was not recalled.
If you change the food, do it very gradually or the pup can get diarrhea.
Start by feeding the pup a mixture of Nutro and Wellness that is 3/4 Nutro and 1/4 Wellness and if after a few days it is tolerating this well, then change to 2/3 Nutro and 1/3 Wellness. Then 1/2 and 1/2, then 2/3 Wellness and 1/3 Nutro then all Wellness.
If your pup gets a loose stool during the change, you can feed her a few dollops of canned pumpkin, the kind that is not sweetened or spiced. This is available in grocery stores, usually on the baking aisle. After each loose stool, feed a few dollops of this.
It’s natural and easy on pups.
If you switch gradually, there’s a good chance your pup will not get a loose stool.
