Portable Hot Tubs and Spas: Easy Way to Relax

Posted on August 31st, 2010 by admin

Relaxation and hydrotherapy are two of the main reasons why people choose to buy portable spas and hot tubs. With warm, soothing water and massaging jets, spas and hot tubs provide an easy way to unwind and to find some relief from the tension and stresses of everyday life. Of course, many purchasers also enjoy the unique social environment that hot tubs create. Whether you want to gather with friends and family or add some extra romance to your relationship with your significant other, spas and hot tubs can provide you with exactly what you need. Best of all, there are many different brands, models and features available on the portable hot tub market so you can select a hot tub or spa that meets all your needs and preferences for the ultimate at-home relaxation.

While just about all portable spas and hot tubs are great for relaxation, it’s important that you purchase a model with the specific features and characteristics that will enhance and maximize your enjoyment of your hot tub. For example, if you want to use your portable hot tub as a remedy for arthritic pain, back pain or stiff muscles and joints, the placement of the hydrotherapy jets is an important consideration. You need to make sure that the hydrotherapy jets of your particular model are appropriately placed such that they will target and massage the particular part or parts of your body that you wish to soothe and relief of pain. Adjustable jets are also a good feature to look for, as they will allow for a more customized experience.

Other important considerations to keep in mind when looking at a selection of portable spas are size and seating arrangement. You need to think about how many people will be using your spa and for what purpose. If you have a large family or plan to use your hot tub as a focal point of parties, you will probably want to choose from a selection of portable hot tub that will seat several adults. In other circumstances, a more moderately sized spa may well be suitable for your home and lifestyle.

Luckily, portable spas are available in many different sizes and with many different seating configurations. From models designed to seat three adults to those with a capacity of up to six adults, there are many options to choose from. Naturally, in addition to size, it’s also important to take note of the level of comfort provided by the spa’s seats. If the seats are not comfortable, your relaxation and enjoyment could be significantly diminished. On the other hand, many portable hot tubs feature contoured seating which is specifically designed to offer maximized comfort which, in turn, maximizes the level of enjoyment you get out of every single one of your hot tub experiences.

In addition to hydrotherapy jets and seating, there are many other features and accessories which can further enhance your entire hot tub environment. For example, top-of-the-line digital controls and in-spa lighting are common amenities that can be found in many portable spas and hot tubs, especially those offered by highly respected manufacturers. Some portable hot tubs also feature waterfalls, which can add points of interest as well as soothing sounds. It’s also possible to add additional amenities and features to your spa environment with spa and hot tub accessories. These can include everything from towel racks and drink holders to pillows and cushions, all of which can make portable spas even more relaxing and enjoyable.

Once you choose the perfect spa or hot tub for your home, there are still a few things you need to keep in mind with regards to installation and safety. While most spas are quite quiet, you may not want to place yours too close to a bedroom, depending upon the preferences of you and your family. Also, it’s often a good idea to place your hot tub in an area where it will be relatively protected from wind, falling leaves and strong, direct sunlight. In terms of safety, it’s vital to ensure that the installation is performed by licensed professionals and that your portable spa or hot tub meets all safety standards. If children live at your home or are likely to visit, a sturdy spa cover with safety locks is a must.

Once you have decided what features and amenities you are looking for, it will be time to find the perfect model at the perfect price. Fortunately, high quality portable spas and portable hot tubs can be found for great value if you know where to look. For example, direct online retailers such as Intheswim.com offer a wide range of excellent models and brands to choose from at very affordable prices. These retailers also offer a great selection of hot tub and spa accessories. Once you have everything you need and installation is complete, you will be ready to begin enjoying hours of fun and relaxation in your very own portable home spa or hot tub.

Pools, Spas And Hottubs Can Boost Your Homes Value And Enjoyment

Posted on August 25th, 2010 by admin

After a hard day’s work, nothing can relax you like a dip into a hot tub, pool or spa. The great thing about a hot, tub pool or spa is that they don’t just make your home more enjoyable, they also make it more marketable.

It’s a fact that adding a hot tub, pool or spa can add value to your home in the event that you ever wish to sell it. However, making sure you choose the right hot tub, pool or spa and the right people to install them is important to keep a money maker from turning into a money pit.

According to the National Association of Realtors, in-ground pools can add up to 11 percent to the value of a home. For this value, there is a price. Pools cost money to maintain, in water and power bills and in chemical treatments. If you contract a pool service to treat and vacuum your pool, it will cost you between $1,500 and $2,000 a year. For swimming pool owners in cold climes, heating a pool for just one season can increase your heating bills by $500.

Before purchasing a pool, make sure you learn about all the costs involved and how to properly maintain the pool. With a little do-it-yourself work, you can greatly reduce the cost of upkeep, thus preventing you from getting underwater on your aquatic investment.

There’s often a lot of confusion about the difference between a hot tub and a spa, so here’s a hard and fast definition. Hot tubs are made of wood, and usually also have a liner on the inside. Hot tubs have jets, just like a spa, but don’t have the contoured seating which spas offer. Spas are constructed of fiberglass or acrylic and generally last longer than a hot tub.

The average hot tub or spa costs about $5,000 to install. How much they increase your home value depends on a number of factors, including where you live. In the South, hot tubs and spas aren’t as sought after as they are in the Pacific Northwest, or other chilly climes where evenings are cool even in the summer.

When purchasing a hot tub or spa, you should ask a few questions before making your choice, such as: Will my floor support the hot tub or spa? What kind of heating and filtration system does it have? How energy efficient is the hot tub or spa? Is it easy to clean and maintain? What sort of warranty is being offered by the dealer?

A hot tub, pool or spa can be a great investment and also make your house a fun place for parties and social events. Making the right choices and taking the right steps in the early stages of installation can keep these luxuries from becoming liabilities.

Getting the Best Out of Day Spas

Posted on August 20th, 2010 by admin

Day spas are places of euphoric feeling of happiness providing relaxation from daily personal or professional stress and strain. Day spas offer services like therapies, massages, body wraps, facials, or any kind of specialized treatments during day time. Unlike the destination spas or resort spas, the treatment can last from one hour to one full day while being in a serene environment away from daily chores and tensions. There are thousands of day spas offering specialized services. Some day spas cater to only specific requirements like the couple spas, escape day spas etc. Waxing is a common service offered in the day spa centre. The body hair is removed with the use of warm wax. The day spa centers are very clean and comfortable. The customers can receive the treatments in their private rooms. If a shower is needed before starting the treatment, showering facilities also are made available for both men and women.

A good quality day spa centre will be typically operated by an esthetician who has got a license to work in the above field. Also trained therapists are employed in the day spa centers specialized in massages and other services. Spa shoes and robes are made available in all sizes to cater to different clients. Many varieties of massages are offered in the day spas like the deep muscle or shiatsu, or Swedish. Apart from waxing, they also provide laser hair removal, heat treatments, and pedicure and manicure treatments. They also have a sauna or a hot tub generally.

Important things to be kept in mind while in a day spa:

Before getting the treatment it is good to explain the spa staff of any health problems like high blood pressure, pregnancy etc. People, who are under medication, should consult the doctor before getting spa treatment.

Many day spas give a questionnaire to be filled and up before providing the services to the customers and the customers are required to provide all the information which will be helpful in serving better and handle with care in case of emergencies.

It is always better to ask for certification, credentials and license pertaining to day spas as some may have untrained and inexperienced worked. Unless there is enough time one should never get into the day spa as it may be waste of money and time.

Taking a treatment in a group, or when opting for a whole package or corporate booking, may be eligible for a discount. It is better to enquire people who have taken the service of the particular day spa to ensure better quality of service. Usually the best day spas offer individualistic services. Hence, it is very important to get suitable appointment time before hand.

It is good to go with minimum accessories and if possible with no make up at all. Also details regarding the latest products and treatments should be got from the staffs of the day spas to be well informed. Some day spas may levy different taxes or surcharges included in the total price. So, it is better to check the prices in advance.

Revitalize Mind and Body With Spas

Posted on August 14th, 2010 by admin

The word spa is related with water treatment or health treatment through water and it has various related meanings like balneotherapy, spa towns or spa resorts which offer these treatment or medication or equipment. It is a best way to treat both body and mind. Basically the term Spa is derived from the name of a town in Belgium. In earlier days the illness caused by iron deficiency was treated by drinking spring water. In England the old Roman ideas of medicinal bathing were put into service in health resorts, but in the beginning they were into water drinking rather than bathing and slowly it was lost when many spas started to offer external remedies.

Spa is meant for overall well being of mind, body and spirit and done by various professional services. This differs from country to country and can be done both traditionally and through modern therapies. To revitalize the body and mind various spa therapies and treatments are being offered which include aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, herbal body glow, shirodhara therapy, Hawaiian massage, Thai massage and Balinese massage. But in many countries they even include Ayurvedic therapies.

Some of the types of Spas are, Club Spa, Cruise Ship Spa, Day Spa, Dental Spa, Destination Spa, Medical Spa, Mineral Springs Spa, Resort or Hotel Spa. Club Spa and Day Spa offer primary fitness services on day use basis through professionals. Cruise Ship Spa provides spa services when people are on the move in cruise ship. Dental Spa offer services with the supervision of a licensed dentist which will include traditional dental treatment. Destination Spa’s primary idea is to guide the individual to develop healthy habits. In olden days, this program was done as a seven day stay and it included spa services, physical fitness activities, healthful cuisine and Wellness education program. Medical Spa’s purpose is to give medical and wellness care and also in traditional method. The procedure or service includes both aesthetic or cosmetic and prevention or wellness. Mineral Springs Spa offers hydrotherapy treatments by using natural mineral, thermal or seawater. Resort or Hotel Spa is owned by resorts or hotels where they offer professional spa services, fitness etc. This is useful for the guests who visit to these places.

Even many services have luxury spas, where they have some unique features like lavender scrubs, geranium cream wraps, jasmine bath, chakra head, shoulder massage, honey citrus wrap, almond cleansing scrub, Balinese massage, lavender milk bath, tomato body wrap, the honey and sesame scrub etc. By taking a spa therapy or treatment it helps the body to cool, relax and refresh itself and mainly it relieves the mind from stress. Whatever is done must be done in a relaxed manner, so that it will help the body or mind to refresh quickly. So spa therapies and treatments are an ideal way to relax.

Spas: Luxury, Indulgence and Life

Posted on August 11th, 2010 by admin

The term spa originally was associated with places that offered water treatment. Today, spas of various kinds are available out there, offering you a full fledged body massage according to ancient Ayurvedic traditions of India to a pedicure or manicure session at the town spa. From treatments to indulgence, spas have a prominent spot in all major tourist destinations. Spa holidays or spa vacations are actively marketed by travel operators and you can find good spa holidays with very little searching.

Today, spa is a general term and it can mean a health resort, a beauty care salon, etc. You can also find pedicure or manicure processes at a spa. One thing that connects all kinds of spa is the luxury and class. If the spa is for treating various skin or physical conditions or if it is for just a few minutes of beauty treatment, a pedicure session, manicure session, head massage, neck massage, shoulder massage or foot massage, spas offer varying levels of indulgence, which holiday seekers can’t miss.

The attraction of spas is that, they are all stress busters. You will find the stress of the daily life and the toil of your profession are diluted and dissolved in a matter of a few minutes of treatment at the spa. Not all spas are built alike. However, the goal of them is the same –to give you some moments of luxury and comfort.

The oldest of all spas will be the mineral spas – the places that have mineral springs, like the springs that give out water that contains iron or other minerals needed by the body. Such spas were developed several centuries ago. People used to travel great distances on foot and on horseback to such spas, for their heeling powers. Today too, Ayurvedic spas in India, the spas in Thailand, Japan, China, etc attract people from all parts of the world, with promises of health and cure from various conditions.

Major hotels at tourist and business destinations also have spas. These spas can be of various kinds. Business meeting planners also look for hotels with spa facilities. They think they can give better value to their guests by offering a spa style treatment. Even a 30-minute session of hands-only shoulder and neck massage while sitting on a chair ensures some comfort and relaxation for the attendees. Similarly, luxury holiday seekers too find it beneficial booking a hotel with spa facilities.

So what will be your thoughts while choosing a spa? Is it just for half an hour of indulgence or will it be for some health benefits? It is also possible that you simply enjoy being pampered at a spa. Sometimes, as said before, you might want to give the guests of your business conference some good moments of relaxation? Before you book the spas, you can always do a research on the facilities available at the spas and how the previous visitors have benefited.

If it is time you planning your holiday or business trip, make sure you have access to spas, which not only gives you some minutes of pampering and stress-free bliss, but also some curative values.

Spas – the Next Step for Fitness

Posted on July 29th, 2010 by admin

The truth about spas: A spa is a wonderful way to help the body recover and relax after an intense (or even a less intense) workout. There are several benefits to making time in your day to enjoy a visit to a spa

As more companies recognize the benefits of relaxing in a spa after exercise, many fitness centers are offering this service on site.

The Benefits Of A Spa After A Workout

The benefits of resting in a spa after you finish your workout are incredible to say the least. The most obvious benefit is that the Spa water will cleanse the body of dirt, sweat, and other undesired materials after exercise.

Since the body will eventually need to be cleaned after a workout, it is best to enjoy the additional benefits of a spa to increase the experience of optimal fitness. Another healthy benefit of using a spa is that the water will provide beneficiary for the skin.

For those people who are exposed to the elements on a daily basis, a spa can do wonders for less than perfect skin. Yet another advantage of relaxing in a spa is that you will experience the wonders of Hydrotherapy, which is a form of therapy that uses water to treat bodily disease and other forms of pain.

Hydrotherapy And Spa’s

Hydrotherapy is a benefit of the spa system that most spa users have no knowledge of. Hydrotherapy has been practiced by virtually every civilization in history, from the Egyptians to the citizens of today.

While Hydrotherapy is intended to be used as a form of medical treatment for those that suffer from musculoskeletal illnesses (ex: arthritis), it is useful for those who have recently completed a workout session.

As the muscles tend to cramp after an intense workout, the effects of the spa will ease your body, allowing you to think about more important aspects of your life. Releasing the body of toxins and stress accumulated during exercise is another way Hydrotherapy will help your fitness goals.

Relaxing Your Life With A Spa

The main purpose of the spa is to relax the body and mind. The spa improves the body of those who have not exercised prior to arriving so the positive effects for those individuals who have participated in a workout before entering a spa are simply amazing.

There is no real purpose in participating in a workout regiment if you are not going to enjoy the end results. If you only work your body without rewarding your body for the hard work that it has completed, your body will not reward you with good fitness and health. Allowing your body to recover after a workout, both physically and mentally, is vital so that you can go about your other daily activities as well as prepare yourself for your next workout. The spa is a great reward to give yourself after a workout session.

Try Out A Spa

With all of the benefits that can come out of a visit to the spa after a hard workout, you should definably schedule a visit. To get the most out of your visit to the spa, try to schedule it on a day that you will not have to worry about other activities, errands etc: it is best to schedule time at a spa on a day that you will workout and don’t have plans afterwards.

If your local fitness center does not feature a spa, you should browse through your phone book for a recreational spa location close to your residence.

The Evolving Faces of Diagnostic Centers and Medical Spas

Posted on July 21st, 2010 by admin

A visit to the doctor is a scary occasion for many people. Hospitals and clinics are almost always painted in white to convey cleanliness and efficiency. Add to that the prospect of being subjected to diagnostic tests using machines and needles. Truly, medical facilities are the most unwelcoming of places.

This is probably the reason why diagnostic centers and clinics are reinventing themselves to make them more appealing to the patients. On the other hand, traditionally non-medical institutions like wellness centers and spas are also trying to gain credibility in an era where consumers are more health savvy and demand more scientific-based health services.

Many diagnostic centers have coined their facilities’ official name to include the term “wellness.” Wellness is a word associated by many with alternative medicine whereas spas conjures pictures of well-being and relaxation. The Diagnostic & Wellness Center for Women of Pacific Medical Center (PacMed), the Diagnostic and Wellness Center at Harbor-UCLA, and the Women’s Diagnostic and Wellness Center of Coral Springs Medical Center in Florida are examples of this trend. Even the renowned Cleveland Clinic has its Florida Health and Wellness Center.

Many clinics are redesigning their facilities to make them less sterile and more relaxing. PacMed’s Diagnostic & Wellness Center for Women in Seattle describes its setting as “spa-like”, with interior decor in warm, soothing colors and furniture and fixtures one wouldn’t normally find in a normal clinic setting. However, despite the spa-like atmosphere, this unique wellness center has all the state-of-the-art medical and diagnostic equipment as well as top notch medical staff necessary to perform diagnostic tests. “Our goal is to change the healthcare experience for the better and encourage people to take a proactive approach to wellness”, according to a PacMed Center spokesperson. The Women’s Diagnostic & Wellness Center at Coral Springs Medical Center in Coral Springs Florida calls its setting “home-like” to do away with the impersonal atmosphere that is associated with many diagnostic centers.

Spas on the other hand, have adopted the term “medical spas” or medispas” to emphasize the medical and health benefits of their services. In the same way, alternative medicine is trying to keep up with technology. Whereas traditional acupuncture uses manual stimulation, acupuncture centers use new technology for stimulation, from electrical impulses and lasers to moxibustion and heat.

While many clinics are generalists, that is, they offer diagnostics, screening and check ups for just about almost all health conditions, many of the modern, “wellness”-oriented clinics are specialized in certain types of disorders. Following are some examples of these so-called boutique diagnostic facilities and their services.

PacMed’s Diagnostic & Wellness Center offers diagnostic services specifically for women’s health. These tests, which are usually part of annual medical check ups, can include any of the following:

(1) Digital mammography which is especially helpful in screening patients with dense breast tissue.

(2) Diagnostic ultrasound which is useful as an adjunct for further evaluation of an abnormal mammogram.

(3) Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), again to check for breast cancer, especially in women who are at high risk.

(4) Biopsies to confirm suspicious-looking structures detected by the above imaging systems.

(5) DEXA bone scanning checks for bone health. As women age, they are at higher risk for developing osteopenia and osteoporosis.

(6) Therapeutic massages either as part of postsurgical rehabilitation programs or simply a relaxing massage to recover from the stress of the tests.

The Women’s Diagnostic & Wellness Center at Coral Springs Medical Center in Coral Springs, Florida offers similar services from breast cancer detection to bone densitometry tests. In addition, it offers education and fitness programs which include lectures, fitness classes, support groups, nutrition, massage therapy, maternal classes, cholesterol & diabetes screenings, weight management and healing arts classes.

The Diagnostic and Wellness Center at Harbor-UCLA specializes in cardiovascular health screening. The center uses state-of-art computer tomography (CT) scanning and imaging technology to perform the following “wellness scans” including heart scan, lung scan, body scan, abdominal aorta scan, virtual colonoscopy, QCT bone density and carotid artery scans.

The Winmar Diagnostics Sleep Wellness Center in Fargo, North Dakota specializes in sleep diagnostics. It basically provides services to hospitals, clinics, and private practices to test for and diagnose sleep disturbances. Its facilities include a free-standing sleep center, a complete sleep laboratory, and state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained staff in the field of sleep medicine.

Wellness scans are the specialty of many centers, including the Medical City Dallas Hospital in North Texas. But what is a wellness scan? A Wellness Scan is a non-invasive CT test from the collarbone to the pelvis and covers the heart, lungs and abdomen. The specific areas scanned in the abdomen are the kidneys, liver, gall bladder, aorta, adrenal glands, lymph nodes, spleen and other certain pelvic organs.

Now, a medical procedure that scares many people is a dental check up. As the name suggests, dental spas cater specifically to the dental needs of patients. The Austin Dental Spa offers general as well as cosmetic dentistry. The center utilizes “only the highest quality materials and the latest technology available in a world-class spa setting.” By using a “combination of spa amenities and personalized care,” the Austin Dental Spa makes a visit to the dentist a stress-free, fear-free experience.

Day spas are centers which provide cosmetic treatment to women and men, ranging from hair removal to botox injections. They are cosmetic centers and usually do not have anything to do with medical check ups and screenings although their services may be medical-based procedures. There are also spas whose services are more inclined towards complementary medicine such as yoga, Pilates, and aromatherapeutic massages.

The newly opened Women’s Health Center of the Bond Clinic in Winter Haven, Florida has combined the features of a diagnostic center and a day spa to form a real “medical spa”, a wellness center which caters to the medical and cosmetic needs of the patients. The center considers itself as a “one-stop shop for women’s health includes obstetrics and gynecology, women’s diagnostic services and a medical spa.” The spa includes a licensed massage therapist and facial specialist who offers a wide range of services from a relaxing hot stone massage to variety of facial treatments. The board-certified physicians perform cosmetic laser treatments for facial rejuvenation, hair removal, spider veins and broken capillaries, acne, Rosacea and age spot removal. Botox and other cosmetic injections for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles are also available.

According Gwen Mayes at Medscape Today , “Until a few years ago, day spas limited their “medical” procedures to an occasional light chemical peel, Botox injection by a visiting dermatologist, or a postsurgical medical massage by a licensed physical therapist. Today, instead of contracting with physicians in the community to stop by 1 or 2 days a week to offer updated laser treatments and advanced aesthetic procedures, physicians are expanding their outpatient facilities or partnering with existing day spas to create a medical spa. Both sides have found a more formal merger to be a lucrative and well-received union. According to ISPA, the industry generated $234 million in revenues in 2003.”

The Women’s Health Center at the Bond Clinic has achieved the ultimate hybridization of a cosmetic and a diagnostic center whose goal is “to give women a place they can go for both their medical and cosmetic needs in a relaxing, comforting and state-of-the-art atmosphere.”

The borderline between alternative and scientific-based medicine has gradually blurred in recent years as a more holistic approach to medicine has become popular. Thus, massages and acupuncture have become part of postsurgical therapy of breast cancer patients while those who practice yoga and Reike may also go for botox and liposuction. Spas also have become mainstream and not just pastimes of the rich and famous. The average person can now have access to a spa anytime, without being subjected to membership or member recommendation rules.

The term “medical spa”, however, is a subject of controversy because many facilities call themselves medical spas or medical day spas although the services they offer actually resemble those of a normal day spa. In many of these centers, a medical doctor may be in attendance or may act as a consultant. However, no diagnostic and screening procedures are being offered. We can expect more facilities to follow the Bond Clinic’s model resulting in the need to protect the interests of patient-consumers who can be confused by the names of the facilities as well as the wide range of services they have to offer. To this end, the Medical Spa Society was formed, a national non-profit organization that aims to look at the guidelines and standards of care of medical spas.

Indeed, diagnostic centers and medical spas have evolved and are continuously evolving. One word of caution, check with your health insurance about their scope of coverage!

By taking a relaxing dip in the spa before you to go to bed at night, you can also improve the quality of your sleep.  The spa will heat your body and as your core temperature cools, this will help you to fall asleep.

Physical Health Benefits

Humankind has known the benefits of hydrotherapy for thousands of years.   The warm, pulsing waters help to relieve arthritis and other health problems by increasing the blood flow around your joints.  The warm bubbling water helps to relax the muscles and this eases muscle tension.

The steam caused by the spa helps to relax and open up your nasal and bronchial passages, allowing deep, relaxed breathing and thus improving respiratory health.  This is particularly helpful for people that suffer from asthma or other breathing related conditions.

When older people use spas, they often report that the aches and pain of aging are significantly reduced and that using a spa has given them a whole new lease of life!

Just fifteen minutes in the spa each day, can see real benefits for people of all ages.

Rehabilitation

Sports therapy experts often recommend hydrotherapy as a way of recovering from physical injury.   In fact, many hospitals have a hydrotherapy pool for the purposes of patient rehabilitation.  If you have your own hot tub, you can use it whenever you want, you don’t have to wait for an NHS appointment!

People that are undergoing rehabilitation can use a spa to do light exercise whilst they are regaining the strength in their body.  The buoyancy that the water gives them allows them to do this exercise with less effort and less wear and tear on the patient’s recuperating body.

Many of the latest spas feature a range of therapeutic options such as aromatherapy and the powerful soothing multi-directional spa jets that offer a fabulous whole body massage as you relax, submerged in the warm, bubbling water.

Now you too can enjoy the refreshing health benefits of hydrotherapy in your own home. To experience the stimulating benefits of a spa, visit Simply Spas or call 0553 416797 today!
